The plan is for members of the National Business Association for Chiropractors (NBAC) only. If you're not currently a member, you may sign up for membership on the application, dues are $15 per year. As a member, you are eligible to apply if you are under age 60, working at least 30 hours per week and reside in the U.S.

While some disabilities may last only a few weeks, others may last months, or even years. The D.C. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan can pay you monthly benefits all the way to age 65.

The D.C. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan supports your chiropractic profession. You will receive benefits for two years if you are unable to practice chiropractic due to your disability. If you remain disabled after two years, you will receive benefits to age 65 if you cannot perform the duties of any gainful occupation for which you are qualified.

Yes. We understand you may be partially disabled and still able to work part-time. In that case, you can still receive a portion of your monthly benefit amount.

You choose how soon you receive monthly benefits—after 90 or 180 days of continuous disability. (This is called the Elimination Period.) Before deciding, consider your personal finances and how long you can cover your bills without your regular income.

Your coverage under the D.C. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan will begin on the first day of the month after you have been approved and have paid the first premium, as long as you are working at least 30 hours a week. (If you are not working at least 30 hours a week, coverage will start the first of the month after you resume working at least 30 hours a week.)

Any disability for which you received medical treatment, consultation, care or services, including diagnostic measures, or took prescribed drugs or medicines, or followed treatment recommendation in the 12 months just prior to your effective date of coverage would not be covered for the first 24 months of coverage.

The D.C. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan does not cover any disabilities caused by, contributed to by, or resulting from your: Intentionally self inflicted injuries; active participation in a riot; or commission of a crime for which you have been convicted under state, provincial or federal law; or pre-existing condition or a Specified Condition. This plan does not cover disabilities due to war, declared or undeclared, or any act of war; or your pregnancy. (This does not include a complication of pregnancy.)

Disabilities due to a sickness or injury which are primarily based on self-reported symptoms and disabilities due in whole or in part to mental illness have a limited pay period, as described in the Certificate of Coverage. All coverage is subject to Prudential's approval of satisfactory evidence of insurability.

The D.C. Long Term Disability Insurance Plan comes with a satisfaction guarantee. Once you receive your Certificate of Coverage, read it over carefully. If the plan does not meet your expectations, return it within 30 days of receipt. Any premiums paid will be refunded to you.
